During the Revolutionary War Richmond’s St.John’s Church was were Patrick Henry delivered his famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech, it was the Capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War, and in the 20th century Richmond was one of the first cities in the world to have a successful streetcar system.
