The City of Richmond has a long legacy of historic significance. Founded in 1737, Richmond became the Capital of Virginia in 1780. During the Revolutionary War Richmond’s St.John’s Church was were Patrick Henry delivered his famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech, it was the Capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War, and in the 20th century Richmond was one of the first cities in the world to have a successful streetcar system. With hundreds of shops, boutiques and restaurants, Richmond is a true Virginia destination. The city’s music scene, numerous galleries and its close relationship with Virginia Commonwealth University make Richmond a real attraction for musicians, artists and students.
